The Harvard Chan School: Certificate in Global Public Health for Nurse Leaders

The Harvard Global Nursing Leadership Program (HGNLP), delivered in collaboration with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Harvard Kennedy School and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, empowers nurse leaders worldwide with the skills to strengthen health systems and drive equitable, evidence‑based policy.

Supported by the Burdett Trust for Nursing, the 2024–2025 cohort brought together ten senior nurse executives from Belize, Liberia, the Philippines, Tanzania, Vietnam and the United States.

Anchored by three core courses

  • Health Systems Strengthening
  • Population Health Management
  • Reforming Policies & Regulations

The program challenges Fellows to apply their learning through an impactful, country‑driven project. This year’s applied projects tackled some of the most pressing global health priorities: maternal and neonatal mortality, cardiovascular health, mental health, burn care, digital referral systems and community‑based stroke response. From pioneering telehealth strategies in Belize to advancing maternal health legislation in the United States, each Fellow produced a scalable, sustainable initiative grounded in local need.

A highlight of the year was an intensive scholarly writing workshop led by Roy Brown, which inspired Fellows to pursue publication in leading journals, further amplifying the voice of nurses in global health discourse.

Rated highly by participants for its transformative curriculum and expert faculty, HGNLP continues to shape the next generation of global nurse leaders. As the program welcomes its 2025–2026 cohort, the partnership with the Burdett Trust for Nursing remains central to advancing nurses’ leadership and impact worldwide.
