NURSING NOW CHALLENGE

A global community of student and early-career nurses and midwives, supported and equipped to lead transformational change that advances health equity and strengthens health systems worldwide. The Burdett Trust for Nursing is proud to host this programme.

The programme builds on the legacy of the Nightingale Challenge and demonstrates the power, potential and influence of the nursing and midwifery workforce in shaping the future of global health.

The mission of the Nursing Now Challenge is to develop the leadership and advocacy capabilities of student and early-career nurses and midwives, enabling them to shape and influence the policies and systems that affect their profession, their communities and their patients. We do this through collective learning, reflective practice, and skills development grounded in global nursing and midwifery priorities.

“We provide opportunities for our members to thrive by empowering them to unlock their potential, elevating their position for influence, change and impact.”

Professor Gemma Stacey, Programme Director, Nursing Now Challenge

The Nursing Now Challenge Global Solutions Initiative brings nurses and midwives together from around the world to connect, share experiences and develop innovative responses to global health challenges. The initiative provides a platform for participants to showcase their expertise, share ideas and learn from leading experts across healthcare and academia.

A global community

At its core, the Nursing Now Challenge is about building a global community of peers. Through cross-country collaboration, members strengthen their collective voice and influence within healthcare systems.

The Challengers’ Committee Regional Hubs and storytelling platforms like the Grassroots podcast create spaces for shared learning, dialogue and leadership development.

The Nursing Now Challenge also supports members to strengthen their advocacy and policy engagement, giving student and early-career nurses and midwives the confidence and visibility to influence health policy at local, national and international levels.

“The introduction of Professor Gemma Stacey as Programme Director marks an important next step for the programme, bringing deep expertise in mental health nursing, person-centred leadership and academic partnership. Her appointment supports the Nursing Now Challenge’s next phase of growth as it continues scaling its global impact.”
